Year End Resolutions - Clarifying Goals for Achievement The holiday season is a wonderful time for so many reasons. Although many people ramp up to frenzied levels of activity, there hopefully comes a period of relative quiet and reflection. During this season commit to taking conscious control of yourself and build in a period of reflection to review where you are, where you were, and where you want to be. If you take a few moments and think through these simple steps, your chance of goal achievement is vastly improved. The better your ability to communicate your goals to others, the more easily you will be able to enroll the resources you need. Here are some tips for clarifying your goals, and communicating them to others.
Critical Thinking Tune-up Opportunity If you have already taken training in Critical Thinking, or, if you have not been exposed to this essential skill in today’s complex and dynamic marketplace, here is a strongly recommended event.
Entrain Your Brain for Relaxation and Focus One of the primary complaints I hear so often from today’s employees up and down the organization is about the frenetic pace and the stress that success in the workplace demands we overcome. However, few people have effective ways of balancing these factors which results in energy depletion, mental fogginess, fatigue, illness, and mistakes. There is a simple practice that can help boost your clarity, focus, and creativity, and concentration. When I ask managers in training sessions, “What factors are different for managers today compared to 15-20 years ago,” inevitably they cite the dynamic fluidity of today’s workplace and managing change as one of their greatest challenges. They will then complain about the resistance their direct reports offer against the changes, or often complain about senior management not really supporting the change. I believe midlevel management is hard. I do not agree that senior management always needs to be actively hammering the change throughout the organization. Perhaps if the manager takes a step back during his/her planning time to identify the source(s) of the resistance, then they will manage the change more successfully. Here are some of the most frequent sources of resistance that can be under the direct manager’s control to influence.
6 Speed Reading Myths Debunked There is so much misinformation about speed reading that as a user for over 30 years, and as an instructor of tens of thousands of learners from all walks of life and all levels of education, I feel compelled to debunk some of the most prevalent and popular myths. However, before we begin, it is essential to define what is reading. |
